Chievo Dam with bridge

The Chievo Dam is a structure with eight arches spanning the Adige River that combines water control and transportation functions. The construction was designed to serve both foot and bicycle traffic while raising water levels for downstream channels.

The dam was built between 1920 and 1923 through collaboration between Verona Municipality and local industries. It was damaged during a military retreat in 1945 but was soon rebuilt to match the original design.

The bridge shows how this work structure has shaped daily life in Verona across generations. Today, walkers and cyclists use the paths that were once designed primarily for river management.

Visitors can cross the structure on foot or by bicycle while observing the river and surroundings. The walkway is relatively exposed with little shelter from weather, so plan your clothing accordingly.
