Chievo Dam with bridge, Bridge and dam structure in Verona, Italy.
The Chievo Dam consists of eight arches spanning across the Adige River, combining water control functions with pedestrian and cycling paths.
Construction of the Chievo Dam began in 1920, funded by a consortium of Verona Municipality and local industries, reaching completion in March 1923.
The entire construction process was documented through photographs by Gustavo Alfredo Bressanini, capturing each phase of this engineering achievement.
The structure raises water levels in the Adige River to supply the Camuzzoni canal, which powers hydroelectric stations and factories in Verona's industrial zone.
German forces damaged the dam during their retreat on April 25, 1945, leading to its reconstruction in 1946 according to original specifications.
