Ponte dell'Industria

Ponte dell'Industria is an iron truss bridge spanning approximately 131 meters across the Tiber River. It is supported by cast-iron piles and masonry abutments, connecting the Ostiense district with Trastevere.

Belgian engineers built this bridge in 1863 to connect the Civitavecchia railway line with Termini Station. The project was part of Rome's modernization of rail infrastructure in the 19th century.

The bridge represents Rome's industrial connection to its port and river trade during the 19th century. It shows how the city structured its economic links through engineering.

The bridge sits between Trastevere and Ostiense stations and can be viewed from various points along the Tiber's banks. The best views are from nearby walkways or from the riverbanks themselves.

The central section originally contained a lifting mechanism that allowed sailing boats to pass underneath. This feature shows how vital the water route was for Rome's commerce.
