Madonna dell'Angelo

Madonna dell'Angelo is a Baroque shrine in Caorle overlooking the Adriatic Sea, featuring ornate altars and intricate ceiling frescoes throughout its interior. A wooden statue of the Virgin Mary serves as the focal point of worship within the sanctuary.

The current building was completed in 1751, replacing an earlier religious structure from the 6th century that was originally dedicated to Saint Michael Archangel. This transformation reflects how devotion at the site evolved over time.

The sanctuary serves as a gathering place for religious ceremonies where fisher folk and residents come together to practice their Catholic faith. The church shapes the spiritual life of the community to this day.

The sanctuary is located at the end of the cliff promenade and is easily reached from the main street. Visitors find the best conditions for viewing in quieter morning or afternoon hours when few others are present.

According to local tradition, the wooden Madonna statue arrived at shore on a marble throne after fishermen discovered it floating in the sea. This unusual arrival has shaped local devotion to this day.
