Sanctuary of Santa Cristina

The Sanctuary of Santa Cristina sits at approximately 1340 meters (4400 feet) elevation in the Lanzo valleys, positioned between the towns of Ceres and Cantoira. The structure occupies a high mountain location with views extending across the Western Alpine landscape.

The sanctuary was founded in the early 15th century and became an important religious site in the Piedmont region. Over centuries it remained a spiritual center drawing believers from the surrounding valleys.

The shrine draws pilgrims and local worshippers who come to the mountain location seeking spiritual reflection and connection. Visitors experience it as a place where mountain travelers and believers gather in a shared sacred space.

Two main stone-stepped paths lead uphill to the site, with starting points from both Ceres and Cantoira. Access is best made on foot since the terrain is steep and proper hiking gear is recommended.

A geodetic survey marker sits at the sanctuary's summit, serving as a key geographic reference point in the Western Alps. This historical marker shows how the location held importance beyond its spiritual role, also functioning as a landmark for mapping and surveying.
