San Domenico, Gothic church in Gaeta, Italy

San Domenico features two naves covered with cross vaults, illuminated by single-lancet Gothic windows and a monumental portal on its facade.

Construction of San Domenico began in 1308 under Charles II of Anjou, who granted Dominican friars land to build a new convent and church.

The church contains a crypt known as Terra Santa, used by the Confraternity of the Madonna del Rosario for burials until the 19th century.

The church underwent significant restoration between 1928 and 1930, removing Baroque decorations to restore its original Gothic appearance and reopened for worship.

The bell tower dates from the 12th century and belonged to a previous female Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria della Maina.
