Cascata del Serpente, Natural waterfall in Masone, Italy.
Cascata del Serpente is a waterfall in Masone featuring five successive cascades along the Rio Masone river. The water collects in pools with greenish reflections between the rocks, creating a series of distinct natural basins.
The geological formations developed through differential erosion of serpentine schist rocks, which created natural steps and basins over extended periods. The Rio Masone continued shaping these structures through its persistent flow.
The name comes from the serpentine shape of the rock formations visible in the cascades. Local schools have created information markers along the paths to help visitors understand the plants growing in this area.
The waterfall is accessible from Masone center via a 20-minute walk on paved paths. Wooden stairs lead to two viewing platforms where visitors can see the cascades and pools clearly.
Each of the five cascades has its own local name such as Snake pool, Cradle pool, Sack pool, and Branch pool. These names reflect the distinct shapes and features that visitors can easily recognize while exploring the area.
