Torre Civica, Bell tower in Piazza Duomo, Trento, Italy
The Torre Civica rises 43 meters above Trento's central square, featuring twelve floors connected by steel staircases and offering views of the surrounding mountains.
Built in 1150 over the Roman Porta Veronensis, the tower served as a prison from the fourteenth to nineteenth century before becoming a municipal landmark.
The tower contains two bells that mark time for local events and celebrations, maintaining centuries-old traditions for the residents of Trento.
Visitors can join hour-long guided tours in groups of ten people, accessing eight of the twelve floors by climbing 156 steps to reach observation points.
The structure underwent a six-year restoration following a fire in 2015, leading to its reopening in 2022 with new safety features and exhibit spaces.
