Rimini Lighthouse, lighthouse in Italy
The Rimini Lighthouse is a lighthouse tower in Rimini measuring about 25 meters tall with a simple white structure and functional design. It stands at the edge of the canal port where fishing boats regularly arrive and depart, creating a working harbor landscape.
The current structure was built on the remains of an older lighthouse from 1754 that was destroyed during World War Two. The harbor basin it now guards was reshaped after the Marecchia river was diverted northward in 1927.
The lighthouse has been a familiar landmark for generations and symbolizes Rimini's deep connection to the sea. The surrounding port area is where locals and fishermen gather daily, keeping maritime traditions alive through their work and daily routines.
The lighthouse is located on Largo Boscovich, a central spot close to the waterfront, and is easy to reach on foot. The area is open and accessible, with walking paths along the canal and clear views across the harbor.
The renowned filmmaker Federico Fellini once imagined the arrival of a large ocean liner called the Rex at this very spot, giving the place special meaning in local stories. This cinematic connection shows how the harbor has inspired people's imagination about Rimini's maritime past.
