Castello Visconteo

Castello Visconteo is a medieval fortress in Binasco featuring a quadrangular layout with high brick walls and two remaining corner towers. A central courtyard surrounded by crenellated battlements forms the core of the structure.

Luchino Visconti constructed the fortress between 1315 and 1319 as a protective stronghold for Milan against military threats. The building reflects the defensive needs of the medieval Duchy during that era.

The Visconti snake symbol appears above the original entrance, marking the family's connection to the region's medieval past. Visitors can still see this heraldic mark as they approach the gate.

The fortress now houses municipal offices, a public library, and a Carabinieri station with free admission. Visitors may encounter restricted access to certain areas depending on ongoing activities inside.

In 1418, Duchess Beatrice di Tenda was executed within these walls following accusations of adultery. This dark chapter remains part of the fortress's historical record.
