MUMAC, Industry museum in Binasco, Italy

MUMAC occupies a former spare-parts warehouse on Via P. Neruda in Binasco, redesigned by designer Valerio Cometti and architect Paolo Balzanelli. Its exterior has a facade of curved metal slats in "Cimbali red"; inside, skylights light white walls and ceilings over 8 metres high with a mezzanine, against a sepia floor recalling coffee. The roughly 1,700 square metres hold over 200 bar espresso machines, arranged in six historical periods from "Albori" to "Nuovo Millennio".

The MuMAC opened on 12 October 2012, conceived by Gruppo Cimbali to mark its first hundred years of activity. The exhibition space occupies a former spare-parts warehouse renovated by designer Valerio Cometti and architect Paolo Balzanelli. Since 2018 the museum has been part of the Circuito Lombardo dei Musei del Design, the Lombard design museum network.

The name MUMAC stands for Museo della Macchina per Caffè. The exhibition is arranged in six periods, from "Albori" to "Nuovo Millennio", and many machines are signed by Italian designers such as Achille Castiglioni, whose Pitagora model won the Compasso d'Oro in 1962, Ettore Sottsass junior and Giorgetto Giugiaro.

The museum is at Via P. Neruda in Binasco, in the province of Milan, southwest of the city. The exhibition occupies about 1,700 square metres on a single level with a mezzanine, so allow time to walk the six chronological sections. The entrance is on the ground floor, where the sepia floor and white walls mark the start of the route.

The collection includes the Enrico Maltoni collection alongside Cimbali's own, totalling over 200 bar espresso machines. Among the signed models is Achille Castiglioni's Pitagora, which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1962. The building itself, a former spare-parts warehouse, was listed by the Chinese publisher Jtart among the 101 most beautiful buildings in the world.
