Palazzo Mensini, Palace and library in historic centre of Grosseto, Italy
The three-story Palazzo Mensini exhibits Renaissance Revival architecture with symmetrical proportions and decorative stone elements across its main facade.
Architect Giuseppe Luciani designed the palace, which opened its doors on April 21, 1898, marking a new chapter in Grosseto's architectural development.
The Chelliana Library within Palazzo Mensini began with 5,000 volumes in 1860, including rare sixteenth-century editions from Giovanni Chelli's collection.
The library maintains extended hours from Tuesday to Friday, opening at 8:30 AM until 7:30 PM, with different schedules on Mondays and Saturdays.
During World War II, the library staff protected valuable manuscripts and prints from potential destruction by relocating them to secure locations.
