Santuario di Santa Maria degli Angeli, Religious architectural complex in Urgnano, Italy
The Santuario di Santa Maria degli Angeli features a Gothic Lombard style with three naves and decorated walls displaying detailed frescoes from different periods.
Built in 1356 following a reported appearance of the Virgin Mary to Marina Casone, the sanctuary underwent major reconstruction in 1460 under Bartolomeo Colleoni's direction.
The sanctuary contains the tomb of Alessandro Martinengo Colleoni and his wife Bianca, transferred here after the destruction of Santo Stefano church in Bergamo.
The sanctuary remains open daily from 7:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 18:00, with regular mass services held twice on weekdays and additional celebrations during holidays.
A 14th-century fresco inside depicts the Madonna on the throne, the appearance to Marina, and the visit of Bernabò Visconti, preserving the sanctuary's founding story.
