Okinawa Senseki Quasi-National Park, Quasi-national park in Itoman and Yaese, Japan
Okinawa Senseki Quasi-National Park is a memorial park along the southern coast of Okinawa Island with several historic sites spread across its grounds. The park encompasses both land areas and coastal sections where visitors can explore multiple memorial locations connected throughout the space.
The park was established in 1972 to preserve locations from the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, where a large loss of life occurred. The memorial sites document this major event and its lasting impact on the island.
The Cornerstone of Peace displays stones inscribed with names of people from many nations who died during the Battle of Okinawa. Today, visitors come to the site to remember and pay respect to those remembered here.
The park is best explored on foot, with walking paths connecting different memorial sites throughout the grounds. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for changing weather, especially during warmer months.
The Himeyuri Tower honors young women from a school group who worked as nurses during the war. Underground shelters beneath the monument remain preserved today, showing how people lived during that time.
