Kuma Kogen Astronomical Observatory, Astronomical observatory at Kumakōgen, Japan
The Kuma Kogen Astronomical Observatory contains a 60-centimeter reflecting telescope and a 40-seat planetarium at an elevation of 609 meters above sea level.
The observatory, which received the official designation code 360, opened its doors in 1992 to advance astronomical research and public education in Japan.
The facility integrates into the Furusato Country Open Air Museum complex, connecting astronomical sciences with Japanese regional heritage and education programs.
Visitors can attend nighttime observation sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 19:00 to 22:00, with admission fees ranging from 300 to 500 yen.
Researcher Akimasa Nakamura conducts asteroid discoveries at this mountain location, which benefits from minimal light interference and clear viewing conditions.
