Kidzania Tokyo, Educational theme park in Toyosu, Japan
Kidzania Tokyo is a theme park inside the Urban Dock LaLaport Toyosu shopping center where children try over 90 professions in a scaled-down city built at two-thirds size. The miniature city consists of streets, buildings and vehicles that replicate real work environments, from hospitals to radio stations.
The park opened on October 5, 2006, bringing a new educational concept to Japanese children through realistic role play. It was the first Kidzania location in Asia, expanding the concept developed in Mexico to the Japanese market.
The facility works with its own economy using Kidzos currency, which children earn through work and spend on services inside. Each child receives starting capital at arrival and can then decide freely whether to earn more or spend it on experiences like a flight or a visit to the hair salon.
The park operates in two daily sessions, from 9:00 to 15:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00, with tickets best reserved several weeks ahead. Children under four enter free, while older children and adults pay different rates that vary by age and weekday.
Each profession pavilion features authentic uniforms, tools and vehicles that allow children to perform tasks in realistic settings, from operating fire trucks to conducting surgeries. The equipment is provided directly by real companies, so a child might work in a replica of an actual airline cabin or staff a working miniature hospital.
