The Beppu Ropeway extends for 1.8 kilometers across Mount Tsurumi, reaching an elevation of 792 meters above the starting point.
The Beppu Ropeway, operated by a subsidiary of the Kintetsu Group, began its operations on December 21, 1962, connecting the city to Mount Tsurumi.
Along the mountain path accessible via the ropeway, visitors encounter seven traditional Japanese shrines, each offering different perspectives of the surrounding landscape.
The ropeway system operates two cabins with a capacity of 101 passengers each, completing the journey between stations in approximately 10 minutes.
During winter months, the ropeway provides access to Mount Tsurumi's hard rime formations, a natural phenomenon where ice crystals form intricate patterns on trees.
