Mukibanda Site

Mukibanda is an archaeological site containing hundreds of buried dwellings and structures spread across hillside terrain. The location displays remains of ancient residential areas with varying construction methods and layouts from different time periods.

The site was a center of human settlement between the 1st century BCE and the 3rd century CE. It demonstrates the transition between two major archaeological periods in ancient Japanese history.

The settlement reveals how residents lived and worked through pottery, stone tools, and household items found within the dwellings. These discoveries show daily activities and demonstrate how families organized their homes and spent their time.

The grounds are open for exploration with marked pathways through the excavated areas. Wear good footwear since the terrain is uneven and the site spreads across hillsides.

The site is divided into seven distinct districts, each revealing different aspects of ancient community life. This layout helps visitors understand how various groups organized themselves and differed from one another within the same location.
