Mukibanda is an archaeological site containing hundreds of buried dwellings and structures spread across hillside terrain. The location displays remains of ancient residential areas with varying construction methods and layouts from different time periods.

The site was a center of human settlement between the 1st century BCE and the 3rd century CE. It demonstrates the transition between two major archaeological periods in ancient Japanese history.
