Sanyo Himeji Station, Railway station in Himeji, Japan
Sanyo Himeji Station is a railway terminal on the Sanyo Electric Railway in Himeji, serving as a key connection point in the city's transportation network. The building houses four platforms on the second floor, handling both local and express train services throughout the day.
The station opened in 1923 as Himeji-ekimae Station and required complete reconstruction after a fire destroyed it in 1946. Over the following decades, it received several name changes before adopting its current name in 1991.
The station design incorporates architectural elements that connect to the surrounding urban landscape, positioned near the remnants of ancient city walls.
Access to the station is through the main building entrance on the ground floor, with stairs and elevators leading up to the platforms on the second level. Peak times in early morning and late afternoon can be crowded, so arriving a few minutes early is advisable during these periods.
The station underwent multiple name changes throughout its existence, from Himeji-ekimae to Dentetsu Himeji, before receiving its current designation in 1991.
