M2 Building, Commercial building in Setagaya-ku, Japan
The M2 Building is a six-story reinforced concrete office structure in Setagaya-ku designed by architect Kengo Kuma. The building contains multiple rental office spaces distributed across its floors for different commercial tenants.
The building was constructed in 1989 and initially functioned as a Mazda automobile showroom. It changed ownership in 2002 and was converted to serve as a funeral house.
The building represents architect Kengo Kuma's early post-modern design phase, contrasting with his later focus on traditional Japanese architectural elements.
The building sits about 6 minutes walk from Goutokuji Station on the Odakyu Line. The location offers convenient access via public transport to central areas of the city.
The building's exterior preserves its original design from its automotive showroom days. Despite its current function as a funeral house, the architectural features from its earlier use remain clearly visible on the facade.
