Futako-Tamagawa, Residential neighborhood in Setagaya ward, Japan.
Futako-Tamagawa is a residential neighborhood in Setagaya ward on the banks of the Tama River, blending apartment towers with broad green spaces. On both sides of the station, shopping complexes sit alongside riverside paths used for walking and cycling.
The neighborhood transformed from farmland into a residential area after the railway line opened in the late 1920s. Later arrival of a large department store brought additional development and new shops to the immediate surroundings.
The area takes its name from the Futako Bridge, which once linked two settlements across the river. Today, residents gather in the riverside parks on weekends for picnics and sports, while running groups follow the waterfront paths.
The railway station forms the central point and offers direct connections to the city center, making the neighborhood easily accessible for both residents and visitors. The riverside paths are most pleasant to explore during daylight, especially on weekends when families and joggers are out.
On sunny days, the river banks offer a view of distant Fuji when visibility is clear enough. The nearby waterfront attracts groups of young people on summer evenings who play guitar and spend time together.
