Sumitomo Fudosan Nishishinjuku Building, Modern office skyscraper in Nishishinjuku, Japan.
Sumitomo Fudosan Nishishinjuku Building is an office tower in the Nishishinjuku business district of Tokyo, with 51 floors. The lower floors hold commercial spaces while the upper floors are dedicated to office use.
The building was completed in 1974, during the years when Nishishinjuku was being built from scratch as Tokyo's first planned high-rise business district. In 2020, a major renovation updated the interior systems and facilities.
The tower sits in the heart of a district where dozens of high-rise office buildings stand close together, creating a skyline that feels different from the rest of Tokyo. Workers and visitors move between the buildings through a network of underground passages that connect the area.
The building is close to Tochomae subway station and also reachable through underground walkways that connect to Nishishinjuku station, so getting there on foot from nearby stations is straightforward. The underground passages are useful in bad weather and help with orientation in a district where many towers look alike from the outside.
The building has a backup power system that can run independently for up to 72 hours without relying on the city grid. This is particularly relevant in Tokyo, a city where earthquakes can disrupt infrastructure without warning.
