Izu Chōhachi Art Museum

The museum exhibits fifty works by Irie Chohachi, including plaster reliefs, paintings, sculptures, and intricately detailed Buddhist statues throughout multiple gallery spaces.

Established in 1984, this museum preserves the legacy of Irie Chohachi, who learned plastering at age twelve and developed innovative techniques during the Edo period.

The museum building incorporates traditional Japanese architectural elements with white plaster walls and displays the evolution of plaster art techniques in Japan.

Located on the Izu Peninsula's west coast, the museum opens daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with adult admission at 500 yen and free entry for students.

The museum provides magnifying glasses for visitors to examine the detailed plaster relief paintings that combine Kano School painting techniques with plastering methods.
