The Philatelic Museum is a three-story building in Mejiro housing exhibition spaces, a shop, and a specialized library with approximately 13,000 books on stamp collecting. The layout allows visitors to view collections from different countries and collectors across multiple floors.
The museum was founded in 1989 and has since preserved and displayed postage stamps from around the world. Rotating exhibitions change every three months, allowing the institution to present fresh perspectives on its collections.
The museum honors its founder Mizuhara Meiso with a dedicated space featuring a reconstruction of his original workroom and personal collections on display. This area reflects the deep passion for stamp collecting that shaped the institution.
The museum sits near Mejiro Station on the JR Yamanote Line, making it convenient to reach by train. Visitors should check current opening hours before arriving to plan their visit timing and avoid disappointment.
Visitors can design and print personalized postcards using computer stations in the Amusement Corner. A world map on display features location-specific stamps from different regions, giving guests a playful sense of global connection through postal history.
