Nanzo-in, Buddhist temple in Sasaguri, Japan

The Nanzoin temple houses the largest reclining Buddha statue in bronze, measuring 41 meters in length and 11 meters in height.

This temple relocated from Mount Koya to Sasaguri in 1899 following local resistance to anti-Buddhist policies during the Meiji period.

The temple contains sand from all 88 shrines of the Shikoku pilgrimage route, preserving connections with major Buddhist sites across Japan.

Visitors can access the temple via the JR Sasaguri Line from Hakata Station to Kido Nanzoin-Mae Station, with daily opening hours from 9:00 to 17:00.

The temple received sacred ashes of Gautama Buddha from Myanmar in 1988 as recognition for its continuous humanitarian support to children in Myanmar and Nepal.
