Hōjō Residence Site, Historic residence ruins in Izunokuni, Japan.

The extensive archaeological site contains foundations and artifacts from the late Heian to early Kamakura periods at the northwestern base of Mount Moriyama.

The residence transformed into a nunnery in 1333 when Kakukai Enjō, widow of Hōjō Takatoki, relocated here after the Battle of Kamakura.

Archaeological excavations in 1992 and 1993 uncovered substantial evidence of medieval Japanese architectural styles and daily life patterns of the Hōjō clan.

The site remains open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and requires a 25-minute walk from Nirayama Station on the Izuhakone Railway.

The location served temporarily as a palace following the destruction of Horigoe Gosho by fire in 1460 before declining into obscurity.
