Kikkō Park, Urban park in Iwakuni, Japan.
Kikkō Park is a landscaped area next to Kintai Bridge with roughly 3,000 cherry trees that fill the grounds with pink and white flowers in spring. The park offers multiple walking paths, rest areas, and observation points for visitors.
The park was founded in 1968 to protect natural spaces and create recreational areas for the residents of Iwakuni. Since then, it has become an important place for leisure and community gatherings.
During cherry blossom season, visitors gather beneath the trees for hanami, a traditional festival where people celebrate the blooms together. Evening lights then shine on the blossoms and the nearby bridge, creating a glowing scene.
The park requires some planning to reach from the train station, so allow time for getting there. Resting areas are spread throughout, so visitors can take breaks while enjoying the grounds.
About 3,000 lanterns light up the trees and the nearby bridge each evening until 10 PM. These lights reflect on the river below, creating a special nighttime scene.
