Kure Municipal Museum of Art, Art museum in Irifuneyama Park, Kure, Japan
The Kure Municipal Museum of Art is a three-story building set within parkland surrounded by trees and outdoor sculptures. Its design combines Japanese tiled roofs with hexagonal brick-colored tiles set into the walls, creating a structure that blends traditional and contemporary aesthetics.
The institution opened in 1982 and became an important cultural center for the Hiroshima region. Its establishment marked the beginning of its ongoing role as an art venue for the local community.
The collection reflects both Japanese and international artistic traditions, bringing together works that show how creativity developed across different regions. Visitors encounter paintings and sculptures that represent various cultural perspectives displayed side by side throughout the building.
The museum sits about ten minutes walking distance from JR Kure Station, making it straightforward to reach. Visitors should come prepared with cash for parking fees, as the facility provides on-site parking for guests.
The building connects to Bijutsukan Dori, a tree-lined street recognized as one of Japan's best roads. Along this avenue stand seventeen sculptures that extend the art experience beyond the building itself.
