Fudenosato Kōbō

The Fudenosato Kōbō museum contains exhibits dedicated to the art of traditional brush making, displaying numerous examples of calligraphy and makeup brushes.

The institution opened in September 1994 to preserve and showcase the 180-year history of Kumano brush crafting, which expanded during Japan's educational reforms.

Master artisans demonstrate traditional brush making techniques at the museum, maintaining the heritage that produces 80 percent of Japan's handcrafted brushes.

Visitors can participate in brush-making workshops for 3,500 yen, with advance reservations required for personalized name engravings on their created brushes.

The museum houses a 12-foot-long brush weighing 880 pounds, representing the extraordinary craftsmanship of Kumano's brush-making tradition.
