Japan National Route 302, road in Aichi prefecture, Japan
Japan National Route 302 is a national road in Aichi Prefecture that forms a ring corridor around the Nagoya urban area. It runs through several municipalities and serves mainly as a through route connecting the outer districts of the city.
Route 302 was planned as a bypass corridor around Nagoya to handle the growing traffic that came with the region's postwar economic expansion. Parts of the road were completed over many decades, as urban development and engineering demands slowed construction in some sections.
Route 302 passes through the greater Nagoya area, linking neighborhoods that range from industrial zones to dense residential streets. Driving along it gives a clear sense of how the region is organized around its urban core.
The road is useful for getting around the Nagoya area without passing through the city center, but traffic tends to build up during morning and evening rush hours. Checking road conditions before departure helps avoid the busiest stretches.
Although Route 302 was designed as a complete ring road around Nagoya, it has not yet been fully closed, meaning some sections do not connect directly to each other. This makes it one of the few national ring roads in Japan that is still officially under construction in parts.
