Myōshō-ji, Buddhist temple in Shimizu, Japan.
The main hall of Myōshō-ji contains important Buddhist statues and features a carved dragon under its eaves making it architecturally notable.
Founded in 1352, Myōshō-ji stands on the claimed location of Nichiren's original hermitage and maintains strong connections to the Imperial House of Japan.
The temple belongs to the Nichiren Buddhist sect and preserves ancient practices through regular ceremonies and traditional architectural elements within its grounds.
Located just minutes from Shimizu station, the temple shares its space with neighboring Buddhist structures Joshun-ji and Myosen-ji, separated by low walls.
Every August, Myōshō-ji conducts the Yakuyoke Shōga ceremony, commemorating when Nichiren found refuge in the forest with assistance from a white monkey.
