Shogi Kaikan

Shogi Kaikan is a five-story building in Sendagaya dedicated to the traditional board game, with playing rooms on the fourth and fifth floors designed for amateur and professional matches. The ground floor features a shop stocked with boards, books, and related merchandise, plus equipment available for rental during tournaments.

The Japan Shogi Association established this headquarters in 1976 to centralize professional shogi activities and tournaments in Tokyo. The building became the main hub for managing and promoting the game across the country.

The second floor operates as a teaching space where skilled players guide newcomers through shogi techniques, keeping the knowledge of this traditional board game alive in the community.

The building is straightforward to navigate, with each floor organized by its specific purpose and clearly labeled. Visitors should know that playing rooms vary in atmosphere, ranging from relaxed training areas to focused tournament spaces.

A new wing called 'Ki no Oto' has opened, adding a modern dojo, retail space, and café to the facility. This expansion brings fresh options for visitors beyond the traditional playing areas.
