Odawara Blueway Bridge

The Odawara Blueway Bridge is an extradosed structure spanning approximately 270 meters across the Seisho Bypass route. It rises about 20 meters above the water, creating clearance for maritime vessels to pass while supporting two lanes of road traffic.

The bridge opened in 1994 and was among Japan's earliest extradosed structures. Its construction marked an important adoption of this engineering method, which combines prestressed concrete with cable support systems.

The bridge serves as a key connection along the coastal highway and reflects Japan's approach to blending infrastructure with maritime navigation needs. It demonstrates how engineering projects integrate with local geography to serve both land and sea traffic.

The bridge is easily accessible via the Seisho Bypass route and offers clear views of the structure from passing traffic. Best viewing opportunities come from nearby vantage points where you can observe and photograph the construction without driving.

The structure employs six cable stays on each side, equipped with specialized dampers to control vibrations and movement. This engineering solution helps keep the bridge stable under wind pressure and heavy traffic loads.
