岡大廈百貨店, Commercial building in Myōdaiji-hommachi, Japan.
The Oka Building Department Store is a retail building near Meitetsu Higashi-Okazaki Station in Myōdaiji-hommachi, Japan. The building spans several floors that housed shops, a food area, and a bookstore.
The building opened in 1958 and stood as a local retail landmark for over six decades. It closed for good in May 2021, ending a long chapter in the neighborhood's commercial life.
The department store served as a gathering place where local residents regularly met for shopping and socializing. Its retail spaces on different floors reflected the everyday needs of the community.
The building sits right next to Meitetsu Higashi-Okazaki Station, making it easy to reach by train. Since it closed in May 2021, visitors can only see it from the outside.
Until its final closure, the building kept its original steel sash windows and staircases from when it was first built after the war. These details make it a rare surviving example of post-war construction methods from that period.
