Kōkenji

The temple features multiple meditation halls with wooden floors, traditional sliding doors, and carefully maintained stone pathways throughout the property.

Established as part of the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition, Kōkenji maintains its original architectural elements and religious practices from centuries past.

The temple conducts regular meditation sessions under the guidance of Rev. Joko Sato, teaching traditional Zen practices to both local residents and international visitors.

Visitors can reach Kōkenji by taking the train to Yuri Kougen Tetudou Yashima station and following the marked path to the temple entrance.

From April through November, the temple organizes monthly overnight Zazen sessions where participants sleep in simple rooms and eat traditional brown rice meals.
