平岡公園, Public park in Kiyota ward, Sapporo, Japan.
Hiraoka Park is a 66.4-hectare green space in Kiyota divided by the Hokkaido Expressway into two distinct zones. The eastern section contains sports facilities including baseball fields and tennis courts, while the western side features natural areas with artificial wetlands and a park golf course.
Development began in 1986 as part of Sapporo's Green Belt Project, with completion achieved in 2004. This extended construction period allowed for the gradual creation of a large recreational and natural conservation space.
The plum grove is a focal point where visitors gather during spring to see the flowering trees and enjoy the seasonal display. Local families and nature lovers use this area regularly to experience the changing seasons.
The grounds are mostly flat and easy to navigate, with marked paths leading to different activity areas. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as exploring both the sports facilities and natural sections can require significant walking.
The Ume-no-ka wooden arch bridge crossing the artificial wetlands holds special significance in Japan's bridge-building history. When it was completed in 1993, it held the record as the country's longest pedestrian bridge.
