感応寺, Buddhist temple in Izumi, Japan
The temple contains a wooden statue of Seikannon, the Goddess of Mercy, which exhibits detailed carving techniques and intricate craftsmanship details.
Emperor Juntoku brought four statues from Kyoto during his exile in the 13th century, and one of these sacred artifacts remains within the temple walls.
The temple preserves traditional Buddhist practices, including meditation sessions and regular ceremonies that follow ancient Rinzai sect traditions throughout the year.
Visitors can reach the temple via a 25-minute journey on the Kyushu Shinkansen from Kagoshima Chuo station to Izumi, followed by local transportation.
The temple grounds feature a collection of pine trees, including one specifically planted by Emperor Showa during his visit to the sacred site.
