Tsuruga Municipal Museum

The Tsuruga Municipal Museum is a city museum housed in a former bank building, displaying artifacts and documents related to regional maritime history. The exhibition spans multiple floors and focuses on trade connections and the evolution of the port.

The museum was originally founded in 1978 as the Tsuruga History and Folklore Archives Center and underwent major renovation between 2012 and 2015. This renovation modernized the exhibition spaces and improved how visitors engage with the collections.

The museum displays objects showing how the port connected the city to trade networks across Korea and China over centuries. Visitors can see how these maritime links shaped the local identity and way of life.

The museum is located in the Aioi-cho area and provides wheelchair accessibility and parking for visitors. School groups can arrange special educational programs, and staff can assist with navigation and questions about the exhibitions.

The museum documents how Tsuruga port served as a refuge for Polish and Jewish refugees during World War II. This lesser-known chapter of the city's past is brought to life through exhibits and archival materials.
