Nosakadake, Mountain peak in Tsuruga, Japan
Nosakadake is a mountain in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, rising to 913 meters with several hiking trails that pass through forested slopes and rocky sections. The summit area is made up of three separate peaks arranged close together, each facing a different direction.
Nosakadake was included in the list of the 100 Famous Kansai Mountains, which brought the peak wider recognition across western Japan. This listing drew walkers from beyond Fukui Prefecture and helped establish the routes still used today.
Nosakadake belongs to a group of peaks across Japan known as "hometown Fuji" mountains, named after their resemblance in shape to Mount Fuji. From the top, walkers can see Tsuruga Bay and the surrounding ridges on a clear day.
The nearest train station is Awano on the Obama Line, from where the trailheads can be reached on foot. The mountain is open all year, but winter conditions can bring snow and ice, so walkers should be prepared accordingly.
Nosakadake is one of the few mountains in the area where the ascent can start from several different entry points, making each visit quite different from the last. Walkers who reach all three peaks find that each one looks out over a clearly different part of the surrounding landscape.
