Japan Monkey Park, Amusement park in Inuyama, Japan
Japan Monkey Park is a recreational complex in the city of Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, combining carnival-style rides with live exhibits featuring different species of primates. The site covers multiple levels on a forested hillside, offering both mechanical attractions and viewing zones where monkeys live in semi-natural enclosures.
The facility opened in 1962 and became one of Japan's first venues to merge entertainment rides with zoological displays. Over the following decades, additional roller coasters and expanded enclosures were added, maintaining the focus on primate conservation and public education.
The park grounds host an affiliated primate research facility, supporting scientists from different countries in observing behavior within a controlled environment. Visitors can explore educational panels explaining social structures and daily routines of various species as they walk through the facilities.
The grounds sit on a hillside, so comfortable shoes and readiness for inclines are helpful for navigating the pathways. On warm days, arriving early allows time to visit the animal enclosures before midday heat.
The roller coasters and carnival rides share the space with several species of monkeys housed in open-air habitats visible throughout the day. Some of the walking paths pass directly alongside primate enclosures, allowing guests to pause between attractions and watch the animals up close.
