Unuma Castle, Mountain castle in Kakamigahara, Japan.
Located on a rocky hill at an altitude of 89 meters, Unuma Castle stands on the northern bank of the Kiso River in Gifu Prefecture.
Built in the early 1400s by Osawa Harutoshi, the castle changed hands during conflicts between Saito Dosan and Oda Nobunaga in the 16th century.
The fortress exemplifies medieval Japanese defensive architecture, utilizing natural rock formations and strategic positioning along the Kiso River for protection.
The castle site is accessible via a 5-minute walk from Unuma Station on the JR Takayama Main Line or New Unuma Station on the Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line.
The castle mountain formerly housed a ryokan and an American military club after World War II, until a fire in 1972 led to its closure.
