Old Tokushima Castle Omotegoten Garden

The Omotegoten Garden is a classical Japanese garden in Tokushima Central Park featuring ponds, stone bridges, and arranged rocks. The grounds combine different design styles and offer multiple viewpoints for observing the composition.

A renowned tea ceremony master designed the garden around 1600 as part of the ruling Hachisuka family's residence. The site remained connected to the castle over centuries and was carefully maintained through the ages.

The garden displays classical Japanese aesthetics with carefully arranged stones and water features that structure the space. Visitors can observe how each element has its place and relates to the whole design.

The garden sits in the central park and is easily reached on foot from surrounding areas. Visitors should allow time to explore the different sections of the grounds and can rest at several spots throughout.
