Hondo-ji temple, Buddhist temple in Hiraga, Japan
The temple grounds contain 10,000 hydrangea plants, 1,000 maple trees, and 5,000 iris flowers spread across multiple garden areas.
Nichiro, a disciple of Nichiren Buddhism, established Hondo-ji Temple in 1277 with support from local lord Kyonobu Soya.
The temple belongs to the Nichiren sect's Three Cho-Three Hon temples, alongside Myohon-ji in Kamakura and Honmon-ji in Ikegami.
Visitors can reach the temple by taking a 10-minute walk from Kita-Kogane Station on the JR Joban Line between 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
The temple houses a historic bronze bell cast in 1278, which received designation as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
