Higashi-Hanazono Station, railway station in Higashiosaka, Osaka prefecture, Japan
Higashi-Hanazono Station is a railway station in the eastern part of Higashiosaka, operated by Kintetsu Railway on the Kintetsu Keihanna Line. It has ground-level platforms and serves commuters traveling between Osaka and the surrounding municipalities.
The line serving this station opened in the 1980s as Kintetsu Railway extended its network into the eastern suburbs of Osaka. The station has remained largely unchanged since then and continues to serve the same residential and light industrial area.
The name of the station combines two Japanese words: Higashi, meaning east, and Hanazono, meaning flower garden. On match days, fans heading to the nearby Hanazono Rugby Stadium fill the platforms and give the station a noticeably different energy.
The station has signs in both Japanese and Roman letters, which makes it easier to find your way on the platforms. A transit app is helpful for checking train times and transfers, as spoken announcements are in Japanese only.
The station sits just a short walk from Hanazono Rugby Stadium, which is considered the oldest rugby stadium in Japan and has hosted matches since the 1930s. During the 2019 Rugby World Cup, this station was the main access point for tens of thousands of fans arriving by train.
