Nekojima Site, Archaeological site in Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Nekojima Site is a multi-period settlement complex in Shiojiri, Chiaki-cho, Ichinomiya, Aichi, spread over 32,000 square metres near the Owari-Ichinomiya parking area. It holds a Yayoi-period moated settlement with a large ditch, large post-built buildings, pit dwellings and square-ditch tombs, plus later Kofun, Nara-Heian and medieval remains.

Excavations between 1999 and 2000 revealed significant discoveries from the Yayoi period, including pottery fragments and stone tools. These findings show how people lived and worked during this ancient era.

The site displays regional pottery styles such as Sueki and Haji ware that reveal trading connections and exchanges between different communities in ancient times. These ceramics show how people moved goods and ideas across regions.

The site lies about 2 km east-northeast of the Ichinomiya Interchange of the Meishin Expressway, near the Ichinomiya parking area (downbound side), in the Shiojiri district of Chiaki-cho, Ichinomiya. It was found in 1997 during a pre-construction survey for that parking area, and the 32,000-square-metre area was excavated from June 1999 to July 2000. No structures are displayed above ground today.

Large wooden post structures were discovered here, showing how people worked together to build substantial constructions. These posts reveal communities that were organized enough to coordinate major building projects.
