Iwakura Castle, Medieval fortress ruins in Iwakura, Japan
The castle complex stretches over an area of 91 meters from east to west and 171 meters from north to south, featuring double moats and earthen walls.
Built in 1479 by Oda Toshihiro of the Ise-Oda clan, the castle controlled the upper four districts of Owari until its fall to Oda Nobunaga in 1559.
Stone monuments at the castle site, including one erected in 1860, serve as educational markers for local schools teaching regional history.
The castle ruins stand a 15-minute walk from Iwakura Station on the Meitetsu Inuyama Line, with surrounding areas lacking dedicated parking facilities.
Archaeological excavations revealed numerous wells, artificial pits, and high-quality Chinese ceramics, indicating the location of the castle's central operations.
