Ōsenji, Buddhist temple in Asao-ku, Japan
The temple grounds contain multiple traditional wooden buildings surrounded by Japanese gardens with stone pathways and ancient trees throughout the compound.
Founded in 757 during Emperor Koken's reign, Osenji received its official name in 917 and became an important center of Shingon Buddhism.
The temple maintains the original Japanese persimmon tree, recognized as the oldest cultivated sweet persimmon variety in the country.
Visitors can reach the temple by taking a city bus from Kakio Station South Exit to Ozenji-Higashi-3-chome stop, followed by a three-minute walk.
The temple received permission to use the Tokugawa shogunate's hollyhock crest and housed memorial tablets of thirteen consecutive shogun rulers.
