Asao-ku

Asao-ku is a western ward of Kawasaki with residential neighborhoods and local shopping areas that line the Tama River. The district includes several communities and is administered from a central office that serves the local population.

The ward was established in 1982 when it separated from a larger administrative area. Before that, the land had been known for hemp cultivation and later for charcoal production during an earlier period.
