Asao-ku, Administrative ward in Kawasaki, Japan

Asao-ku spreads across 23.28 square kilometers in the western section of Kawasaki, containing residential areas and local commercial districts along the Tama River.

The region, established as an independent ward in July 1982, was previously known for hemp production during the Heian period and charcoal manufacturing in the Edo period.

The Ōsenji temple stands as a religious center within Asao-ku, representing traditional Japanese Buddhist architecture and spiritual practices for the local community.

The ward office at Manpukuji provides administrative services to 167,792 residents while maintaining connections to multiple neighborhoods including Katahira, Kurokawa, and Yurigaoka.

A Parastegodon tooth fossil discovered in Yurigaoka area indicates this region remained above water during the late Pliocene period.
