Genkyū-en, Daimyo garden at Hikone Castle, Japan

The garden features a central pond connected by nine bridges to small islands, with waterfalls and a traditional tea house called Hakkitei.

The fourth lord of Hikone domain, Ii Naooki, established this garden in 1677 as part of his secondary residence, completing the project in 1679.

The garden layout incorporates elements from both the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang and the Eight Views of Omi, reflecting Chinese and Japanese landscape traditions.

Visitors can access the garden from 8:30 to 17:00, with combined tickets for Hikone Castle and Genkyu-en available for 1000 yen for adults.

The water in the central pond comes directly from the outer moat through a siphoning system, maintaining constant water levels throughout the seasons.
