Mount Kojin

Mount Kojin is a 284-meter summit near Lake Biwa that rises above the landscape of Shiga Prefecture. The location offers views across the lake's waters, the urban areas of Hikone, and the natural terrain of the surrounding region.

The Kojinyama Shrine has stood on the mountain for centuries, marking its role in Hikone's religious and social development. This long history established the site as a spiritually significant place in the region.

Local festivals and ceremonies take place on the mountain throughout the year, connecting residents with traditional Japanese mountain worship. The site remains central to how the community maintains its spiritual and cultural identity.

Marked trails guide visitors to the summit through a route with around 3,500 steps and an elevation gain of about 110 meters. The paths are well-marked, making it straightforward to navigate and follow the route on foot.

The shrine on the mountain blends elements from two different religious traditions, showing a mix of Shinto and Buddhist features in its design. This religious fusion is a distinctive aspect that reflects the complexity of Japanese spiritual practices.
