Kobe Kanden Building, Corporate skyscraper in central Kobe, Japan

The Kobe Kanden Building is an 18-storey office tower completed in February 2000 at 6-chome, Kanocho, Chuo Ward, Kobe, beside the Higashi Yuenchi park. Its light grey stone or concrete facade is cut by full-height dark glazing strips, and the top steps back into a narrower blue-glass section. A taller glazed volume rises behind it.

The Kobe Kanden Building was completed in February 2000, designed by Nikken Sekkei and Nippon Engineering Consultants and built by Takenaka, Obayashi, Shimizu and Kumagai Gumi. At completion its tower reached 170 m, making it the tallest building in Kobe at the time. It stands on the south side of Higashi Yuenchi Park in Chuo Ward.

The building's name comes from Kansai Electric Power, whose Kobe branch occupies floors 8 to 18, while floors 1 to 4 hold its Kobe sales office and floors 5 to 7 are rented to other tenants. Since 2005, on 17 January, the windows of floors 10 to 15 facing the Higashi Yuenchi park are lit to form the shape "1.17" for the memorial gathering held there.

The building sits near major transportation hubs in central Kobe, making it easy to reach and explore the surrounding business district. This area benefits from good public transit connections, allowing easy movement to other parts of the city.

From sunset until 23:00 the tower is lit up. Since 2005, on 17 January, the anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, windows on floors 10 to 15 facing the Higashi Yuenchi memorial site are lit to form the shape "1.17".
